What does one clip really cost?

Credits aren’t comparable across companies, so we converted them to dollars using each monthly plan’s price divided by its credits. Credit costs per clip are from each pricing page.

Pika’s credits cost the same on all three paid plans (about 1.1 cents each), so its cost per clip doesn’t change with the plan. Runway’s credits get cheaper on bigger plans: about 2.4 cents on Standard, 1.6 on Pro and 1 cent on Max. Annual billing lowers both.

These are different models, so this compares budgets, not quality. Most people need several takes per usable shot, so divide by your usual retry count. Prices can change; check Pika’s pricing and Runway’s pricing.

Workflow and tools

Pika’s workflow

Pika centres on Video Studio plus single-purpose apps: Pikaframes for transitions between images, Extend Video, Color Grade and Motion Transfer. Its audio apps are a standout: Pika Soundtrack “gives any footage native music, voiceover, and motion-aware sound effects,” alongside Pika Music, Pika Speech and Pika SFX. Developers can also use the Pika API.

Runway’s workflow

Runway’s product page highlights tools aimed at editors and teams:
