Adding sound to a Pika video
There are two ways to do it.
All at once: Pika Soundtrack
Upload the clip and Soundtrack adds music, voiceover and effects matched to the action: “Footfalls land on footfalls, rain sits on stone.” Leave the prompt empty and you get “natural sound design derived from the video alone.” Pika says “visuals and duration are preserved and only the audio is replaced.”
Layer by layer
Make each layer separately (a music bed in Pika Music, key effects in Pika SFX, narration in Pika Speech) and mix them in your editor. More work, but full control over levels and timing.
- Finish the picture first: trim, extend and grade.
- Open Pika Soundtrack and upload the clip.
- Leave the prompt empty for natural sound, or describe the music and voice you want.
- Check the credit cost, then generate.
- Listen on headphones for sync, levels and anything that doesn’t belong.

Music bed (Pika Music)
Warm, gentle acoustic track for a travel montage. Fingerpicked guitar, soft piano, light percussion, around 90 BPM, hopeful and calm, no vocals. Builds slightly toward the end.
Sound effect (Pika SFX)
Heavy wooden door creaking open slowly in a large stone hall, with a faint echo.
Soundtrack direction (Pika Soundtrack)
Tense, low synth score that rises as the runner speeds up. Keep natural footsteps and breathing. No voiceover.
Narration script (Pika Speech)
Every morning, before the city wakes, the harbour comes alive. The boats go out one by one, and the gulls follow, as they have for a hundred years.
Voices, music and rights
- Voice samples need consent. ElevenLabs Multilingual v2 on Pika lets you upload an audio sample of a speaker; only use your own voice or one you have permission to use.
- Don’t imitate real people in ways that could mislead or harm them.
- Don’t reference copyrighted songs you don’t have rights to as music references.
- Check your plan for commercial use. Pika’s pricing page lists a commercial license on the Creator and Fancy plans.
- Follow platform rules on AI-generated content, including any disclosure requirements.
