What is Swap Anything?
“Swap anything in your clip — the performance stays as filmed. You can easily change cast, wardrobe, setting, or props. Or you can upload references, and change almost everything about how the clip is skinned. The app will maintain the foundational timing, motion, and narrative of the original, but swap in the elements you want.”
Pika’s apps page lists it as a Featured App: “Recast anything in your clip — the performance stays as filmed.” Its app address uses the name “reskin video,” which describes the idea well: new skin, same bones.

How to use Swap Anything
- Open Swap Anything and sign in.
- Upload the clip you want to change.
- Describe the swap, or upload reference images of what should appear.
- Check the credit cost shown in the app, then generate.
- Compare with the original: motion and timing should match; only the swapped elements should change.
- Refine the prompt or references and try again if something else changed.
Writing swap prompts
A good swap prompt says what to replace, what it becomes, and what must stay.
Replace [WHAT] with [NEW THING, with 2–3 details]. Keep [the movement / face / background / camera] exactly the same.

Using reference images
Pika says you can “upload references.” Tips for good references (ours):
- One clear subject per image, well lit, on a simple background.
- Match the angle: a front-facing reference for a front-facing performer.
- Consistent characters: design once in Character Studio, reuse everywhere.
- Products: use a clean shot from Product Shot so labels stay accurate.
- Settings: a wide image of the location you want.

Example 1 · Cast: swap the person
Replace the man in the grey hoodie with an elderly woman in a red coat. Keep the walk, timing and camera exactly the same.
Example 2 · Wardrobe: change the outfit
Change her outfit to a white linen summer dress and straw hat. Keep her face, movement and the background unchanged.
Example 3 · Setting: move the scene
Swap the office background for a sunny rooftop garden. Keep the person, gestures and framing the same.
Example 4 · Props: replace an object
Replace the coffee cup in his hand with a glass bottle of orange juice. Keep the hand movement and everything else the same.
Choosing a good source clip
- Clear performance: the motion you want to keep should be easy to see.
- Subject not too small in the frame, especially for cast or wardrobe swaps.
- Steady camera and decent light give the app more to work with.
- Fewer overlapping people: swaps are cleaner with one or two subjects.
- Short clips are faster to test and cheaper to redo.

Swapping through the Pika API
Developers will find a related operation in the Pika API catalog: Pikaswaps, described as “Replace a region of a source video.” We can’t confirm it is the exact engine behind the Swap Anything app, but it does a similar job:

Rights and responsible use
- Real people: Pika’s Acceptable Use Policy says “You must not upload or submit photographs, portraits, or other likenesses of real individuals without their express consent.”
- No impersonation: the policy prohibits content that “impersonates any person without authorization, consent, and legal right.”
- Deception: don’t use swaps “to deceive, defraud, mislead, misinform, or disinform others.”
- Your footage: only upload clips you own or have permission to edit.
- Commercial use: Pika lists a commercial license on Creator, Fancy and Enterprise plans.
