How to generate a sound effect
- Open Pika SFX and sign in through Pika’s login page.
- Describe the sound using the six parts below.
- Set the length if the app offers it, up to 20 seconds; keep one-shots short.
- Check the credit cost, then generate.
- Listen on headphones for clicks, noise and stereo movement.
- Refine one detail (material, distance or space) and generate again.
- Download and place it in your video, game or edit.
Describing a sound precisely
Sound effects are specific. “A door” could be a hundred different sounds; say which one.
Example: A heavy old oak door with iron hinges creaks open slowly, then slams shut, in a large stone hall with a long echo. Close to the listener. About 4 seconds, ominous.
- One sound per prompt for clean, reusable effects.
- Describe movement for stereo: “passes from left to right.”
- Say “no music” if you only want the effect.
- Say where it starts and stops: “sharp start, quick fade.”

Using effects in your Pika videos
- Finish the picture so timings don’t change.
- List the moments that need a sound: impacts, reveals, transitions, footsteps.
- Generate one effect per moment, plus an ambience bed for the scene.
- Place each effect on the frame where the action happens.
- Add music and voice with Pika Music and Pika Speech, keeping effects clear of dialogue.
Project guides: product ads, short films and Reels.
Using effects in games
- Keep one-shots short: pickups, clicks and hits work best under a second or two.
- Make variations: generate several versions of footsteps or hits so repeats don’t sound robotic.
- For looping ambience, generate the full 20 seconds and check the loop point in your editor or engine.
- Keep a consistent style: use the same style words (“retro 8-bit,” “realistic”) across a game’s sounds.
- Name files clearly:
footstep_wood_01,footstep_wood_02.
